The Connoisseur's Care Guide: Preserving Recreated Heirlooms & Anti-Tarnish Jewellery

The Connoisseur's Care Guide: Preserving Recreated Heirlooms & Anti-Tarnish Jewellery

Every piece in the Loop & Luxe atelier is born from a philosophy of second chances — rescued vintage trims, reclaimed coin motifs, and artisan metalwork reimagined into wearable modern heirlooms. To ensure your pieces retain their radiant golden patina and protective anti-tarnish shield, our artisans have compiled the definitive care handbook.

1. The Golden Rule: Last On, First Off

The single greatest cause of tarnishing and metal dullness in handcrafted jewellery isn't air or sunlight — it is daily personal cosmetics. Perfumes, body mists, hairsprays, alcohol-based hand sanitizers, and moisturizers contain chemical compounds that compromise protective anti-tarnish lacquers.

The Ritual: Put on your earrings, haslis, and rings only after you have finished your perfume, makeup, and hair routine. When retiring for the night, make your jewellery the very first thing you remove.

"Recreated jewellery carries history. Treat it not merely as an accessory, but as an heirloom being passed along a continuous timeline."

2. Moisture & Water: The Hidden Culprits

While our pieces feature durable protective coatings, moisture is the catalyst for metal oxidation. Never wear your jewellery while:

3. Safe Cleaning: Microfibre Only

Never use harsh chemical cleaners, commercial jewellery dips, toothpaste, or coarse paper towels on recreated or anti-tarnish jewellery. These abrasive agents scratch micro-coatings and strip hand-applied vintage patinas.

How to Clean at Home:

  1. Take a clean, ultra-soft lint-free microfibre buffing cloth (like the one provided in your Loop & Luxe box).
  2. Gently buff the surface in smooth, circular motions to lift away daily skin oils and dust.
  3. If the piece was exposed to perfume or perspiration, dampen a cloth with plain lukewarm filtered water, wipe lightly, and immediately dry with a fresh dry towel.

✦ Quick Care Cheat-Sheet

Do This (Preserves Luster) Avoid This (Causes Tarnishing)
Store in individual airtight pouches with silica gel Tossing loose pieces together in an open dish
Gently buff with microfibre after each wear Soaking in soapy water or liquid dips
Spritz perfume before putting your jewellery on Spraying scent directly on necklaces or collars

4. Mindful Storage: The Individual Pouch Method

Metals rub against one another. When two pieces of jewellery clink together inside a drawer, their surfaces suffer micro-abrasions that wear down finishes. Keep each Loop & Luxe creation enclosed in its individual microfibre pouch or breathable velvet-lined compartment in a dry, dark wardrobe.
